A 70-year-old visitor from Nevada drowned Sunday in Wailea, Maui police reported.
The victim was found floating in the ocean facedown at Polo Beach fronting the Fairmount Kea Lani Hotel at 3:45 p.m.
Bystanders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics arrived, but the victim died at the scene.
He was identified as Larry McMurry of Gardnerville, Nev.
Cause of death is pending results of an autopsy.
Medical problem, not car crash, killed Hilo man
A 49-year-old Hilo man man died from a medical condition Thursday when the sedan he was driving ran off the right side of Waikoloa Road and rolled onto a small rock embankment.
An autopsy was conducted Monday on Robert J. Cooley of Hilo.
The medical examiner determined that Cooley died from a medical condition and not from the crash. The death will not be counted in the official county traffic fatality total.
Highway lane will be closed for construction
The Kauai Department of Water will close the far-left westbound lane of Kaumualii Highway east of Uahi Road for waterline construction Wednesday morning.
The lane will be closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday to remove the concrete barriers for the construction work on the median.
