Fugitive held on $500K bail after arrest by Kauai police
Kauai police captured a fugitive after a weeklong search.
Police arrested Ray “Kuna” Harada, 43, of Kapaa Wednesday night. He was wanted on a bench warrant after he evaded police when officers attempted to arrest him Sept. 29 off a dirt trail in Kilauea.
Harada allegedly assaulted officers in the attempted arrest when police used a Taser to detain him to no avail. Police said he escaped and fled on foot.
Police sought the public’s help on Harada’s whereabouts. At about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers located him near Kahili Beach, also known as Rock Quarry Beach.
Harada again allegedly assaulted an officer and attempted to escape. After a brief struggled, police detained him.
Police arrested Harada on investigation of assault, resisting arrest, escape and criminal contempt of court. He is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
