Hurricane Linda became a category 2 storm overnight off the coast of Mexico and is generating high surf to the west coast of Mexico.

Linda, packing sustained winds of 90 mph, was about 340 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California at 11 a.m.

It was moving west-northwest at 10 mph and could become a major Category 3 hurricane by Monday night.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward of 30 miles and tropical-storm force winds extend 105 mph.

The storm is expected to remain offshore and its winds and rains are not a direct threat to land.

It’s expected to weaken and head west later in the week.
