Wastewater discharges in Ala Wai, Wahiawa
The Department of Health Clean Water Branch is advising the public to stay out of the Ala Wai canal and the Wahiawa Reservoir after a wastewater discharge.
An estimated 3,000 gallons of wastewater discharged from a manhole fronting 2500 Kalakaua Avenue on Friday. About 2,750 gallons entered the storm drain on the corner of Kuhio and Kealohilani Avenues and reached the Ala Wai Canal.
In Wahiawa, an estimated 1,262 gallons of partially disinfected sewage released from the Wahiawa Wastewater Treatment Plant into Lake Wilson.
According to the Clean Water Branch, the discharge has stopped.
Warning signs have been posted and water samples will be collected, the department said. The public is asked to stay out of the water until the signs have been removed.
