The city Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victims in two separate water-related incidents on Oahu.
The cause and manner of death for Kenneth Amps, a 65-year-old homeless man from Waianae, is still pending further tests. Amps’ body was recovered from the reef at Makua Beach on Friday morning.
Suji Back, 21, of Honolulu drowned Saturday in Waimanalo, the Medical Examiner’s Office said.
Lifeguards saw two swimmers in distress in rough surf at Waimanalo Beach Park at about 3 p.m. Saturday about 70 feet offshore. A male swimmer in his 20s was rescued. After searching, rescuers found the second swimmer, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Man arrested in attack on college student
Police arrested a 49-year-old homeless man Tuesday after a 21-year-old Honolulu Community College student said the suspect hit her on the back of the head and fled Monday.
Honolulu Community College security personnel assisted police in the arrest, which occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on Dillingham Boulevard in front of HCC, according to a college statement. The man was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault, a misdemeanor. Bail was set at $1,000.
The female student, who was able to attend classes after the attack, identified her attacker, the college said.
