A practice round at Koolau Golf Club provided Rainbow Wahine golf coach Lori Castillo a pretty good idea of the shape of Eimi Koga’s game heading into the first tournament of the fall.
In her first tour around Koolau, Koga shot even par on a course rated among the nation’s toughest 18 holes. An impressive score "because that course is all about picking targets and hitting those targets," Castillo said.
Koga remained dialed in while earning medalist honors in her UH debut and leading the Rainbow Wahine to the team title in the Hobble Creek Fall Classic in Springville, Utah.
Koga shot a 36-hole total of 1-under 141 to claim her first collegiate win and the Wahine captured the program’s first team victory since 1996. She took the lead with 1 under 70 on Monday and shot even par on Tuesday to win the weather-shortened event.
The Rainbow Wahine will next play in the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational Oct. 6-7 in Sammamish, Wash. Koga finished in a tie for second at the event last year with Washington, one of her five top-10s as a sophomore with the Huskies.
