A 34-year-old career criminal told a soccer mom at gunpoint that he was “a druggy” and allegedly took more than $7,300 in money, cellphone, jewelry, Maui Jim sunglasses and several credit cards from her earlier this month at Kapiolani Park.

A preliminary hearing for Phillip Osuna, who allegedly robbed the woman Sept. 21 — just 12 days after being released from Oahu Community Correctional Center where he had been held for a parole violation, is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon in District Court.

Osuna, who had no local address when he was arrested, was charged with kidnapping, first-degree robbery, fraudulent use of a credit card, second-degree identity theft, second-degree theft, unauthorized possession of confidential personal information and theft or forgery of a credit card.

Osuna remains in custody, unable to post $200,000 bail.

Osuna was arrested Sept 24 at the Pacific Marina Inn near the Honolulu Airport after numerous tips to the CrimeStoppers Honolulu program.

The victim, in a police affidavit, said she was sitting in her car at Kapiolani Park 5:20 p.m. Sept. 21 across from the Waikiki Natatorium. She was waiting for her daughter to complete soccer practice.

The suspect opened the front passenger door and told the victim to drive her car around the block. While the woman was driving the car, Osuna searched the car’s glove compartment and her bag, according to the police affidavit.

When the victim pleaded with Osuna the suspect allegedly told her: “Say please one more time and I am going to hurt you.”

Osuna allegedly then took the woman’s jade and another bracelet, a watch and a white gold wedding band with diamonds as well as her wallet, sunglasses, iPhone, credit cards and money.

Osuna fled from the car near the restrooms by the tennis court.

On Sept. 22, detectives responded to a report that a man used the victim’s credit card at the Haleiwa 7-Eleven.

A day later, CrimeStoppers released surveillance footage taken at the convenience store and, based on tips to police, Osuna was arrested Sept. 24.

Osuna had been released just two weeks before the robbery at Kapiolani Park. He was imprisoned on June 6 after testing positive for crystal methamphetamine and released Sept. 9

Osuna’s prior felony convictions include second-degree robbery in 2014 and several auto break ins.

His other crimes date as far back as 2000 and include theft.
