The latest addition to the University of Hawaii men’s basketball team, Sheriff Drammeh, ought to feel especially at home in the Stan Sheriff Center.

“It’s pretty cool,” Drammeh said.

The signing of the 6-foot, 3-inch, 160-pound point guard from Kista, Sweden, is expected to be announced Friday, according to people familiar with the situation.

Drammeh confirmed to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that he was offered — and has accepted — a scholarship from head coach Eran Ganot.

Drammeh said he will have four years of eligibility. The signing brings to four the number of Rainbow Warrior recruits since Ganot took over April 8.

The addition of Drammeh could be especially important if the only other point guard announced, Bryce Canda of Central Wyoming Community College, is not cleared academically. Classes begin Monday.

Drammeh played for the Swedish under-18 national team. “It was a great experience,” Drammeh said. “Playing against the best players (in) Europe really helped me to see how good I am and shows what’s working and what I have to work more on.”

Drammeh said, “My biggest strengths are probably my understanding of the game, (while) something I need to work more on is my physicality. I need to get stronger.”
