California man found unresponsive in waters off Kaanapali dies
A California man found unresponsive in waters off Kaanapali died Thursday, Maui police said.
The man was identified as James S. Sweeney, 80, of Carlsbad, Calif. Cause of death is pending an autopsy.
At 10:11 a.m., rescue units were summoned to Black Rock because a male was unresponsive in the waters and pulled to shore by witnesses. They performed CPR on the victim and first responders continued the efforts.
The victim died at the scene, police said.
