Police arrested a juvenile on suspicion of second-degree terroristic threatening Wednesday in connection with a message posted on social media Tuesday night.
The juvenile allegedly posted the threat on Twitter about another minor but no weapon was involved, according to the Honolulu Police Department. No further information was provided.
The post had “threatening language against James Campbell High School,” according to a letter from Campbell-Kapolei Complex Area Superintendent Heidi Armstrong that was sent home with students Wednesday.
Campbell High officials plan to have police officers stationed at the 2,639-student campus Thursday as they did Wednesday, said Donalyn Dela Cruz, spokeswoman for the state Department of Education. No incidents were reported Wednesday, she said.
No classes will be held Friday due to a state holiday.
Dela Cruz said school officials are investigating after the threat was posted on Twitter by a student. School officials talked to the student and the case was turned over to police, she said.
Mitchell Tynanes, whose daughter is a freshman at Campbell, said the situation was unfortunate because the community is close-knit.
“Any threat, anybody is going to take it seriously,” Tynanes said.
