Ex-Kauai man sentenced to 10 years in sexual assault of girl, 13

Joel J.P. Ibana, 31, of Honolulu, was sentenced to serve a 10-year prison term for the sexual assault of a 13-year old relative.

A 31-year-old Honolulu man was sentenced to a 10-year prison term for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl. 

Kauai Circuit Judge Kathleen Watanabe sentenced Joel J.P. Ibana on Wednesday for the assault that occurred in April 2010 when Ibana was living on Kauai. 

Ibana pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and third-degree sexual assault.

A bench warrant was issued for Ibana in December 2013 after a grand jury indicted him on six counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of third-degree sexual assault. 

U.S. marshals in Tacoma, Wash. arrested him in January 2014.
