DARRELL MIHO / SPECIAL TO THE HONOLULU STAR-ADVERTISER
The University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Emily Maglio hits against the Cal State Long Beach 49er Ashley Murray during a match on Saturday at the Walter Pyramid.

No. 10 Hawaii picked up its eighth consecutive victory but lost a setter during Friday’s 25-11, 25-16, 25-13 Big West volleyball victory over winless Cal State Fullerton in Fullerton, Calif.

Junior setter Tayler Higgins injured her left ankle early in Set 1 and was replaced by sophomore Kendra Koelsch for the rest of the 79-minute match. Higgins was expected to have the ankle X-rayed and will miss Saturday’s match at UC Riverside.

All 14 players on the travel roster saw action, including junior middle Annie Mitchem who had five kills and three blocks in two sets. Hawaii has won its last four matches in straight sets.

The Rainbow Wahine (13-1, 3-0 Big West) got eight kills from senior middle Olivia Magill, senior hitter Tai Manu-Olevao and sophomore hitter Kalei Greeley. Magill hit a season-high .700.

Junior hitter Nikki Taylor added six kills, the time in 15 matches dating back to last season that she did not have at least 10 kills. Taylor also had three of the team’s seven aces.

Hawaii outblocked the Titans 12-4 with Koelsch in on four. The Wahine also won the dig battle 44-33 led by Greeley’s nine.

Kandace Thomas had seven kills for the host Titans (0-15, 0-3) and Paige Reed had 12 digs.

Hawaii finishes its first road trip of the season at UC Riverside on Saturday (3 p.m. HST).
