Kristen Sawada shot a 7-over-par 80 and finished tied for ninth and the University of Hawaii Hilo women’s golf team came in seventh during the Western Washington Invitational on Tuesday in Bellingham, Wash.
Sawada, who started the final round tied for third, finished at 154 at Bellingham Golf and Country Club. She finished nine strokes behind medalist Jennifer Liedes of St. Martin’s.
UH Hilo finished the 12-team tournament at 645, which was 45 strokes behind winner Northeastern State.
Hawaii Pacific totalled 654 to wind up in 11th place.
The Sharks’ top finisher was Carly Farthing, who was tied for 25th after an 80—160.
UH men finish last in season opener
The University of Hawaii men’s golf team carded a 20-over-par 872 to finish last in the season-opening Alister MacKenzie Invitational on Tuesday in Fairfax, Calif.
The Rainbow Warriors shot a final-round 295 at the Meadow Club. California won the 16-team tournament with an 810.
Hawaii’s James Horton closed with a 69 and finished tied for 22nd at 5-under 208.
San Jose State’s Cody Blick won the event with a 67—196.
