Lifeguards searching waters off Makapuu for missing teen

City lifeguards are scouring the ocean near Makapuu today for a 16-year-old Hawaii Kai boy who police reported missing a day earlier.

Noah Montemayor, who may be emotionally distraught, was last seen going to bed about 9 a.m. Tuesday and has not been seen or heard from since, police said on Wednesday.

Shayne Enright, Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Services spokeswoman, said lifeguards on personal watercraft were searching the water for Montemayor today at the request of police.

Firefighters were also dispatched to the area after receiving a request from police, said Honolulu fire Capt. David Jenkins.

He said firefighters sent crews with a personal watercraft and rescue boat to assist in a water search in the area about 2:10 p.m.

Police asked anyone with information about Montemayor’s whereabouts to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *CRIME from a cellphone.
