Navy reports Mamala Bay sewage spill

The Navy said equipment failure led to a sewage spill into Mamala Bay on Oahu Tuesday.

The state Department of Health said 230,000 gallons of partially treated, non-UV disinfected sewage entered by bay on Sept. 27 between 11 a.m. and noon.

The state said it was notified of the spill on Wednesday by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC).
