The University of Hawaii men’s basketball team could lose its most experienced coach shortly.
Assistant Norm Parrish, who has more than a quarter-century on the college level, could be named head coach at Westminster College in Salt Lake City as soon as this week, people familiar with the process said.
“I really can’t comment on anything right now … maybe in a couple of days,” Parrish said Monday. A Westminster spokesman said, “Nothing is official, yet.”
Parrish joined first-year head coach Eran Ganot’s staff in May 16 after two stints at the University of Utah and 20 years as head coach at Salt Lake Community College. Parrish was 447-198 as a head coach, including a national championship.
Several of Parrish’s former junior college players, including Troy Ostler and Ahmet Gueye, have played for the Rainbow Warriors.
Westminster athletic director Shay Wyatt said in a text message, “Our search process is still ongoing” and declined further comment.
The Griffins’ previous coach, Adam Hiatt, abruptly resigned earlier this month after going 73-48 over four seasons. The Griffins return eight players, including three starters, from an 11-16 team and are transitioning to NCAA Division II membership from the NAIA.
Ganot was not immediately available for comment.
