Shades of Ray Bradbury! The discovery of liquid water on Mars has set our human world abuzz, for it raises ever higher the possibility of life forms on our planetary neighbor as well as potential for Earthling astronaut visits there — even habitation — in the future. Now would be a fun time to reread Bradbury’s classic “The Martian Chronicles,” to appreciate just how imaginative — visionary? — that science-fiction collection about human colonization of Mars was, given that it was published nearly 70 years ago. As for modern parallels to literature and pop culture: Coming Friday to a theater near you is “The Martian,” the big-budget film based on Andy Weir’s 2011 novel about an astronaut stranded on Mars. No little green men, we presume, but we’ll settle for star Matt Damon.
