Hawaii County police charged a 58-year-old Puna man Friday with multiple drug offenses after a search of his home yielded 134 marijuana plants, nearly 50 pounds of dried marijuana, more than 350 marijuana concentrate capsules and other drug-related materials.
The search of the Pikake Street home was executed Thursday morning. Michael Doyle Ruggles was arrested at the scene.
Ruggles was charged Friday with five counts of promoting marijuana, seven counts of promoting a harmful drug, four counts of promoting a detrimental drug, 14 counts of possessing drug paraphernalia and one count of possessing a prohibited firearm magazine. His bail was set at $84,500.
Man allegedly stole truck, equipment
Prosecutors charged a 46-year-old man Thursday with stealing a truck, trailer and a mini-excavator.
Lance Kealoha was charged with first-degree theft. His bail amount was set at $50,000.
Police said he was seen May 25 allegedly driving a stolen truck while pulling a trailer with a mini-excavator on it in Kapolei. Police stopped the vehicle and he was later arrested.
Paddler found at beach park hospitalized
A man, believed to be in his 70s, was hospitalized in critical condition after he was found unresponsive at Kailua Beach Park on Friday morning.
Paramedics said he was paddling a one-man canoe before he was found in the water at 8:26 a.m.
