A Kalihi woman who was a fugitive for three weeks after she was indicted in the hit-and-run traffic death of a Mililani motorcyclist entered a plea of not guilty Thursday morning in Circuit Court.
Chantel Andrade, 40, is accused of killing 25-year-old cyclist Keith Jantoc of Mililani. She was arrested at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7 in Hilo after disappearing in July, and brought back to Oahu by sheriff’s deputies.
Jantoc was killed April 15 in the accident that occurred in the town-bound lanes of the H-1 freeway near the Kunia onramp.
An Oahu grand jury indicted Andrade on July 14 on charges of fleeing the scene of a fatal accident, a Class B felony, and driving without a license. In addition, she has one criminal misdemeanor bench warrant and seven traffic misdemeanor bench warrants.
She entered her plea Thursday via closed-circuit video from Oahu Community Correctional Center, where she is being held.
Andrade’s bail was set at $100,000, and the case will be heard by Circuit Judge Dean Ochiai on Oct. 12.
Andrade turned herself in a day after the accident, and her SUV was found with motorcycle parts in its grille at a Pearl City parking lot.
