Pearl City’s Mariel Galdiano is in a four-way tie for fourth after shooting a 2-under-par 70 during the first round of match play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur on Monday in Portland, Ore.
Galdiano, a senior at Punahou School, is a three-time girls state individual champion.
Jennifer Hahn of Henderson, Nev., and Samantha Wagner of Orlando, Fla., lead at 68. Cindy Ha of Demarest, N.J., is third at 69.
Kailua’s Malia Nam is at 74 (tied for 50th), Honolulu’s Aiko Leong carded a 75 (t-71) and Honolulu’s Marissa Chow posted a 77 (t-101).
The field of 156 golfers will be cut to the top 64 after Tuesday’s final round of stroke play. The remaining players move on to a single-elimination match play, which will have a 36-hole championship match.
