Traffic was being diverted around a 12-inch water main break near the Palahia Street bridge in Makakilo.

A 12-inch water main break in Makakilo on Saturday morning cut off water service to 560 homes.

Board of Water Supply crews were still working on the break at 92-1050 Palahia Street at 8 p.m. on Saturday. BWS reported 510 customers between Ho’olu Landing Condos and Makakilo Drive, and another 50 on Makakilo Drive above Palahia Street were without water.

The break was reported at 7 a.m. Saturday.

A bypass was installed to provide water to half of the affected customers. Ho‘olu Landing Condos and some customers above are still without water. Two roving water wagons and two stationary wagons are providing water service to the affected customers.

The outbound lane of Palahia Street at the bridge is closed and traffic is being contra-flowed on the inbound lane.

Repairs are likely to last through the night, a Board of Water Supply spokeswoman said.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area or use alternate routes, if possible.

Work is expected to continue late into Saturday evening.
