Eat the Street hits Ewa Beach: The popular food truck eating festival returns to the West Side on Saturday. Enjoy "back-2-school"-themed dishes prepared by more than 20 vendors and catch the "Ewa’s Got Talent" contest. The fun happens from 4 to 9 p.m. at Ewa Puuloa District Park, 91-201 Kaimele Place.
Courtyard Brunch: Ward Village’s monthly all-ages foodie event returns. Admission is free so guests can purchase food and drink tickets as they go along. Some of the menu items: Belgian waffle topped with sriracha honey butter flash frozen ice cream and maple syrup flash frozen caramel popcorn from Primo Popcorn, and a Blini Trio, mini Russian-style buckwheat pancakes with three different toppings, from The Nook. Support our firefighters: The Hawaii Professional Firefighters Foundation is holding a Malama Celebration from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at The Willows, 912 Hausten St. in Moiliili. Enjoy the restaurant’s buffet, a silent auction, a raffle for a trip for two to Las Vegas, a wine tasting and entertainment by Amy Hanaiali’i and Willie K, and firefighter musicians Ku Kia’i. Comedian Rodney Villanueva will emcee. Cost is $150 per person or $1,200 for a table of eight. Proceeds will go toward Hawaii firefighters who have been stricken with cancer and a statewide fire safety campaign. Mighty Mo’s summer finale: The final Picnic on the Pier of the season takes place Aug. 21, adjacent to the historic Mighty Mo at Pearl Harbor. Bring your own picnic gear, food and drink (only plastic or aluminum containers are allowed) for a relaxing, family-oriented evening. Jason Laeha will provide the music. Activities for the keiki and limited tours of the U.S. battleship Missouri will be offered. Gordon Biersch will have food items and some craft beers for sale for those who would rather purchase dinner on-site. Note: No glass, grills, tables, umbrellas or tents are permitted. Complimentary round-trip shuttle service from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center will be available. Cost at the door is $10 kids ($5 presale) and $15 adults ($10 presale). Special VIP tables available. On the Big Island: Celebrate the mai tai at the Seventh Annual Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Royal Kona Resort. Highlights include a Battle of the BBQ from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guests will have a chance to purchase dishes and then vote for their favorite barbecue. Henry Kapono will give a concert at 2:30 p.m. by the hotel’s main swimming pool. At 4:30 p.m. the Mai Tai Mix-off featuring more than 20 bartenders and mai tai aficionados will take place, with a competition for the World’s Best Mai Tai. Go to donsmaitaifest.com.
And on Maui: Fairmont Kea Lani and Napa Valley winery Chateau Montelena sponsor a winemaker’s dinner on Thursday, with dishes prepared by executive chef Tylun Pang. Chateau Montelena owner Judy Barrett will select the wines. Offerings include Kauai prawns, "Mauka Harvest" salad, Niihau lamb and Kula raspberry and dark chocolate panna cotta. The evening kicks off at 6 p.m. with a reception of ahi poke, Korean-style chicken and crostini with goat cheese and tomato. Cost is $120. Reserve at 875-2210.
Made in Maui County: The second annual Made in Maui County Festival will be held in November and is expected to draw thousands; festival organizers note that more than 9,500 people attended last year’s event.
