A brush fire near Nawiliwili Road in Lihue burned nearly 15 acres early Sunday morning.
The fire did not damage any homes or structures, and no injuries were reported, a Kauai County spokeswoman said in a news release.
The fire broke out at about 5:30 a.m. Firefighters from Lihue, Kapaa and Kalaheo, and the Fire Department helicopter, contained the blaze at about 6:50 a.m. and brought it under control at 7:05 a.m.
Firefighters remained Sunday morning to extinguish hot spots. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Residents asked to save water
Residents of the Kalaheo, Kauai, area were asked Sunday to use only enough water for "essential uses" following a power outage failure at the Kalaheo deep well site.
Power was restored at noon, but the request for conservation remained in effect for lower Kalaheo, specifically the makai side of Kaumualii Highway.
Essential water needs include cooking, bathing and toilet flushing, a Kauai County news release said.
Meanwhile, loose mixed waste is not being accepted at the Hanalei refuse transfer station until further notice due to mechanical problems, Kauai County said Sunday.
Such waste should go to the Kapaa refuse transfer station from 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. daily.
