Coast Guard personnel assisted a 61-year-old snorkeler Saturday after he experienced a medical emergency about a mile off Kalalau Beach on Kauai.

The man reportedly lost consciousness after returning to the passenger vessel Na Pali Runabout.

The Coast Guard cutter Kittiwake responded to the emergency call and transferred the patient aboard using a litter.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter was then called to transport the patient to emergency medical services at Lihue Airport. From there, the patient was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
