Pennsylvania eliminates Pearl City 9-4
Pennsylvania scored four runs in the top of the first and padded its lead with five in the top of the seventh to beat Pearl City 9-4 in Friday’s semifinals of the Senior Little League World Series in Bangor, Maine.
Panama beat Georgia 5-4 in 12 innings in the other semifinal. The Panama-Pennsylvania final will be carried by ESPNU at 8 a.m. today.
Sawada leads OCC men’s golf by 1 shot
Jared Sawada takes a one-shot lead into today’s final round of the 50th annual Oahu Country Club Men’s Invitational. Sawada won this year’s Manoa Cup at OCC, just after graduating from the University of Hawaii.
He fired a 1-over-par 72 in Friday’s gusty second round and is at 139. UH-Hilo senior Corey Kozuma and UH-Manoa junior Ryan Kuroiwa shared low-round honors with 68s. Kozuma is a shot behind Sawada and Kuroiwa is two back.
Matt Ma, who won the past two OCC championships, is five shots back after a 73. There are 10 players within five shots of the lead, including Ma, Richard Hattori (69—142), Jonathan Ota (73—143), Brandan Kop (73—144) and PJ Samiere (69—144).
Sawada, Kozuma and Kuroiwa tee off at 12:34 p.m. today.
Carl Ho won the 36-hole Senior Championship (55- older), shooting 76 both days. Mike Kawate and Tom Goodbody shared second, one stroke back, after closing with 77s.
UH Hilo to honor Osorio, Yates, Lamson
Sweetie Osorio, Tyler Yates and Bob Lamson will be inducted into the University of Hawaii Hilo Vulcan Athletic Hall of Fame on Aug. 28.
Osorio helped the Vulcans win their first national volleyball title in 1979; Yates was the first player from the school to reach the major leagues; and Lamson is being honored for years of support of the athletics program.

Haleiwa’s Rita gains national rodeo finals
Shelby Rita of Haleiwa has qualified for the short-go in breakaway roping at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo.
ESPNU will carry the finals on a delayed basis at 11 p.m. today, with a replay at 7 p.m. Sunday.
