Car runs over feet of boy in crosswalk
An 11-year-old boy suffered bruises when a car “ran over his feet” Tuesday while he was walking to school on South Beretania Street, his mother reports.
The car fled the scene and police have opened a hit-and-run case. Anyone with information is asked to call the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division at 723-3413.
The Washington Middle School sixth-grader described the car as a newer model red Volkswagen Beetle.
Katrina Wilson said her son was crossing Beretania mauka to makai in a marked crosswalk somewhere between Punahou and McCully streets at 7 a.m.
Wilson said other cars had stopped for her son, so he thought it was safe to cross. The Volkswagen did not stop at the crosswalk, even though other drivers honked their horns, Wilson said.
After the car rolled over the boy’s feet, he “walked on his heels” to school, where an ambulance was called, but he did not go to a hospital, Wilson said.
