Some relief, some confusion at the DMV
Just about anything the city might try to ease the pain of line-waiting at the Oahu DMV offices is appreciated, for sure. But there’s part of the pilot project at the Kaneohe office that’s a head-scratcher.
Folks coming in for motor-vehicle service can take a number and sit down, which is a no-brainer improvement. But the numbers are issued in a random sequence, not numerical order.
It’s still going to be first-come, first-served, of course, but the public is not going to know how many people are in front of them. The city wants to keep people with a short wait from selling their place in line to someone positioned further back.
Except… what would be wrong with a little free-market enterprise? And really, it would be nice to have some sense of how long you have to wait as you take a seat. You miss your turn? Tough luck.
