Kauai drowning victim ID’d as Seattle man
A 54-year-old man who drowned in waters off Lydgate Beach Park last week was identified as Hom Shu of Seattle, a Kauai County spokeswoman said.
Shu had been swimming in Morgan’s Ponds when he was found underwater shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday.
Paramedics took Shu to Wilcox Hospital in critical condition. He died Friday night.
This is Kauai’s 14th drowning so far this year. Many of the drownings have involved tourists.
There were eight drownings last year on Kauai.
2 sought after man bloodied in Kahului
Maui police opened an attempted-murder investigation Sunday after a man was found covered in blood in Kahului, a department spokesman said.
Lt. William Juan said police were called to Molokai Akau Street in Kahului around 5:45 a.m. because two men were reportedly fighting.
The suspects fled when police arrived, but a man was left injured and bleeding, Juan said. The man was taken in stable condition to the hospital.
Juan said the victim sustained lacerations and a pellet gunshot wound. Police learned that the victim was attacked when he emerged from a home. The suspects, wanted on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder, remain at large, Juan said.
Man denied liquor allegedly hits cashier
A 26-year-old Waianae man allegedly punched a store cashier Saturday afternoon in Waianae because he couldn’t buy more liquor, police said.
According to a police report, the already intoxicated man became upset around 3:30 p.m. when the store clerk refused to sell him liquor. The suspect allegedly punched the cashier and left the store but returned with what police called a "dangerous instrument."
Police said the man threatened the cashier and damaged a nearby ATM. Officers arrested him around 4:20 p.m. near the B K Superette on suspicion of first-degree terrorist threatening and other charges.
Shoplifting suspects thwart citizen’s arrest
Two shoplifting suspects used what police called a "dangerous instrument" Saturday to ward off a man who tried to stop them, police said.
Police said a 32-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were seen shoplifting at a Honolulu store around 10:40 a.m. and threatened a 37-year-old man with a weapon when he tried to make a citizen’s arrest.
Police, however, were able to arrest the suspects about an hour later on suspicion of first-degree robbery.
The suspects posted $1,000 bail on a fourth-degree theft charge and were released at about 11 p.m. Saturday.
Teen without license found with stolen car
A 16-year-old boy was caught driving a stolen vehicle without a license Saturday morning in the Waipahu area, police said.
Witnesses called police after seeing the teen around 2:35 a.m., police said. Officers located the boy and the car around 4 a.m. and arrested him on suspicion of operating a stolen vehicle, driving without a license and resisting arrest.
Man charged in St. Louis Heights burglary
Police have charged a 31-year-old man for a burglary in St. Louis Heights in June.
The suspect was arrested Thursday after officers identified him during a routine traffic stop. During the arrest, the suspect was found in possession of a loaded firearm.
Police charged the suspect Saturday with first-degree burglary and three firearm-related charges. His bail was set at $50,000.
Bicyclist, 27, injured in McCully collision
A 27-year-old male bicyclist was seriously injured Saturday evening after he was apparently struck by a vehicle in McCully.
The incident happened around 5:10 p.m. at the intersection of Lokahi and Algaroba streets. The bicyclist was transported in serious condition to a local trauma center.
