Hawaii Opera Theatre is making a special offer for early ticket buyers to the 2013-14 opera season, which features some of the most beloved works in the repertoire.
From today to Sunday, single tickets will be available at half off the $47 to $125 prices. Tickets can be purchased at the newly redesigned HOT website, hawaiiopera.org, or by calling the box office at 596-7858.
The season opens Oct. 13-15 with “Turandot,” Puccini’s masterpiece about Prince Calaf’s attempt to win the hand of Princess Turandot. The work features “Nessun Dorma,” the aria that has become the song of triumph for a range of singers, from Pavarotti to Willie K.
The season continues March 28, 30 and April 1, 2014, with a dual program of “I Pagliacci” and “Carmina Burana.” The former work tells of a clown’s vengeance, while Carl Orff’s popular “Carmina Burana” sets medieval poems satirizing the Catholic Church to powerful score.
The final work of the season is Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Mikado” from June 13-15 and 20-22, 2014. Set in Japan, the comedy pokes fun at English high society.
