Blaze leaves 10 family members homeless
Ten family members were displaced Tuesday afternoon after a fire damaged two bedrooms of a three-bedroom Ewa house.
Five of the occupants at home at the time managed to escape unharmed.
One woman had complained of smoke exposure, and Emergency Medical Services responded, but she refused further treatment or transport to a hospital.
The fire began in a bedroom at the back of the house, causing significant damage, and spread to a second room, causing moderate damage, fire Capt. Terry Seelig said.
About 25 firefighters responded to the 2:27 p.m. fire on Koalipehu Street, and the first unit was on scene at 2:33 p.m. The fire was brought under control at 2:40 p.m.
Damage to the house was estimated at $80,000, Seelig said.
He said the soot and smoke throughout the house made it uninhabitable.
The Red Cross is assisting the family.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
