Carissa Moore recorded the highest wave and heat scores of the day during her quarterfinal win over Coco Ho on Saturday at the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, Calif.
Moore advanced to today’s semifinals of the World Championship Tour event, where she’ll surf against Pauline Ado of France.
Moore caught a left-breaking wave and pulled off a three-turn combination, scoring a near-perfect 9.50 for the ride. She then caught a right-hander in the final minutes of the heat to post a 16.83 score. Ho’s two-wave total was 9.90.
"I was looking for the rights out there and then that left came to me, but it’s tough out there," Moore said. "There aren’t a lot of waves out there, so I was really happy (to) get that 9.50. The crowd has been amazing out there and I’m excited to make it to the final day."
Ho won an all-Hawaii heat earlier in the event, defeating Moore and Alana Blanchard.
California’s Courtney Conlogue faces Australian Tyler Wright in the other semifinal.
Hawaii’s Tatiana Weston-Webb placed fourth in the women’s pro junior division.
