Woman burned fighting fire in her home
A 63-year-old Kaneohe woman was injured battling a Thursday morning fire that started on the second floor of her Kaneohe Bay home.
The woman was taken to a hospital in serious condition with non-life-threatening burns following the two-alarm fire which 35 firefighters brought under control in 17 minutes. The fire was reported at 1:54 a,m.
A guest in the Kaneohe home at 44-111 Kalenakai Place — a woman in her 60s — escaped without injury. She was sleeping on the first floor when the fire broke out.
Cause of the $220,000 fire at the four-bedroom house is under investigation.
Capt. Terry Seelig, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman, said the fire started on the top floor of the two-story structure and was contained there.
Marijuana find leads to Puna man’s arrest
A Puna man was charged Wednesday in connection with a marijuana-growing operation on two properties in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision.
Edward Fuhrmann, 44, has been charged with two counts of first-degree promotion of marijuana, one count of attempted first-degree promotion of marijuana and three counts of possessing drug paraphernalia.
On Wednesday police executed a search warrant at Fuhrmann’s home on H Street, where they recovered 145 marijuana plants growing outside and in a shed that had been converted into a growing room. They also recovered more than three-quarters of a pound of dried marijuana from the shed and 13.32 pounds of dried processed marijuana packaged in 28 plastic bags from inside the house.
They also recovered 45 plants growing on a vacant lot on Eighth Avenue.
Fuhrmann was released after posting $36,000 bail.
Girl, 6, found on pool bottom dies at hospital
A 6-year-old Eleele, Kauai, girl died Sunday at a hospital after being found at the bottom of a private pool.
The Garden Island newspaper identified the victim as Trixia Mich Soliva, granddaughter of Roger Soliva, an employee of The Club at Kukui‘ula.
The victim was seen at the bottom of the pool at 12:15 p.m., and fire rescue personnel were called. She was taken to Wilcox Hospital, where she died. The pool was the site of an employee event.
This was Kauai’s second freshwater drowning and the 13th overall this year, the newspaper said.
