Food Network food truck competition includes Hawaii team
This season of “The Great Food Truck Race” on the Food Network will debut Sunday August 18 with a competition that includes three Hawaii-bred competitors.
Exploits of the Aloha Plate Truck, run by broadcast personality Lanai Tabura, his chef-brother Adam, and comedian Shawn Felipe, have been documented for the past couple months via social media.
The trio and their truck are among eight teams competing for a $50,000 cash prize in addition to the keys to their truck, according to a Food Network statement.
Hosted by Tyler Florence, the fourth season of the show includes the longest route so far, at 4,181 miles, with stops and cooking challenges in cities and towns from Beverly Hills, Calif., to South Dakota to Wash., D.C.
Online voting for the food truck teams this morning has the Aloha Plate Truck crew in second place with 34 percent of the vote, trailing the Boardwalk Breakfast Empire team, which is No. 1 with 37 percent.
Fans can vote up to 10 times per day online.
