Police are trying to determine if a 33-year-old man was drunk when he was run over early this morning in Pearl City while lying in the street.
The Medical Examiner’s office identified the pedestrian as Andrew Mercado, of Pearl City. Results from an autopsy conducted Wednesday to determine the official cause of death are pending.
The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition at 12:47 a.m. by paramedics. He died at the hospital.
Police said the pedestrian was run over while lying on Auhuhu Street near Aumakua Street.
The driver of the vehicle, who also lives in Pearl City, was not injured. Speed and alcohol were not factors on the part of the driver.
This was Oahu’s 37th traffic death, compared to 32 at the same time last year.
