Harbors could use some weekend supervision
Hawaii’s five state harbors on Oahu are open to the public seven days a week, but harbor masters and agents are on duty only on weekdays.
Ed Underwood, administrator of the state’s Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation, explains that his division’s administrative offices are open Monday through Friday and don’t keep records on busiest days for boat traffic at harbors. Huh? State officials need to take a look at the harbors on weekends to determine, and do, what seems to be the obvious.
Case steps off the battlefield
Well, who can blame him? Former U.S. Rep. Ed Case, after multiple election defeats, has decided to make his exit from the political stage.
Opting to start earning money instead of raising it and spending it on ads, mailings and the like seems a rational choice. Senior vice president and chief legal officer at Outrigger Enterprises Group should do nicely.
Case said he would not run for public office while at Outrigger and hopes "that’s a long time." If that’s leaving the door open, it’s only by a crack. Still, we’ll be watching.
