Trout fishing at reservoir begins Saturday
The rainbow trout fishing season at the Kokee Public Fishing Area on Kauai opens Saturday, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources announced. People may fish from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Sept. 29.
Anglers are limited to 12 fish per day. Anglers must have a state freshwater game fishing license, which may be obtained at DLNR offices, fishing supply stores, license agents or www.hawaii. gov/dlnr/dar.
For more information or for a list of license agents, call the DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources at 274-3344 on Kauai or 832-5009 on Oahu.
Last year, 2,570 anglers caught 13,349 trout at Kokee. Trout fishing is expected to be better than last year as a large number of trout were stocked in the reservoir in 2012.
Woman wanted after trial date comes and goes
A Kauai Circuit Court judge has issued a bench warrant for a Hanamaulu woman for failing to appear at her trial on 16 animal cruelty charges that were filed three years ago, the Garden Island reported.
Laura Butler-Brady did not appear before Circuit Judge Randal Valenciano at the start of her trial Monday, the newspaper reported. Butler-Brady, the former proprietor of Keapana Horsemanship riding stable, faces 16 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.
The case was dismissed in 2012 because the state had violated her right to a speedy trial, the newspaper reported.
In June 2012 a grand jury re-indicted Butler-Brady.
The Kauai Humane Society conducted the initial investigation that led to the first indictment in 2010.
