A celebration of life for former state lawmaker Bob Herkes will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dodo Mortuary in Hilo.

Herkes, of Volcano, Hawaii, a former Inter-Island Resorts hotel executive who served on the Hawaii County Council and in the state Senate and House of Representatives, died Aug. 21 in Hilo Medical Center. He was 83.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Aloha attire is requested.

Herkes, born in Iloilo, Philippines, is survived by wife Jo-Anna K.; sons Robert B., Ken and Doug; brother John; sister Jana; and a grandchild.
