Beau Bassett, 18, was charged with second-degree attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed Kevin Lee Scott shortly before midnight Friday in the 2600 block of Kalakaua Avenue. His bail was set at $100,000, police said.
A witness said he saw Bassett and another man, later identified as Bassett’s brother, stab Scott.
However, only Beau Bassett was charged with attempted murder. His brother, who was arrested at the same time for second-degree attempted murder, was released Sunday pending investigation.
When confronted by a police officer Friday, Bassett raised his hands in the air and said, "It was self-defense, he was choking my brother. … I had to," the affidavit said.
The police officer said the suspect’s hands were covered with blood.
