Clearing the sidewalks of every little thing

City crews were plenty busy Monday starting to enforce Honolulu’s new ordinance banning storage of private possessions on public sidewalks.

To avoid civil-liberties challenges that the city is unjustly targeting the homeless, officials will need to make sure they’re checking out commercial areas as well, to be sure that merchandise and rubbish from merchants aren’t blocking sidewalks either.

Then there are those planters edging the roadways around Thomas Square. Oh, wait, the city put those in place. What’s that expression about what’s good for the goose?

Wie pulls out of tournament, disappointingly

Michelle Wie cited illness in withdrawing from the suspended second round of last week’s U.S. Women’s Open rather than play the 18th hole. That would have been her final hole in the tournament anyway, as she was certain to miss the weekend cut by several strokes.

"There are no words to explain how disappointed I am in myself right now," she tweeted Friday evening.

In the next three tournaments, she needs to be chin-up to rise from 12th to eighth on the U.S. points list to qualify for inclusion in the Solheim Cup next month in Colorado.
