Hilo’s Hamamoto in 24th place
Hilo’s Jarett Hamamoto opened with a 1-over-par 73 Tuesday and has a share of 24th at the Web.com Tour Q-School first stage event in Dayton, Nev. It is one of 12 first-stage events across the country. Tuesday’s second-round scores were not reported.
The top 30 and ties at Dayton Country Club advance to one of six second-stage events next month. Approximately 156 advance to the Final Stage, Dec. 11-16 at PGA National in Florida.
The leader in Dayton, Nev., is former Hawaii Pearl Open champ John Ellis, who shot a first-round 65.
For the first time, all 50 PGA Tour cards for the 2015 season will come through Web.com. All players who make it to the Final Stage secure at least conditional status on Web.com next year.
Last week, former Hawaii high school champ Chan Kim finished 39th at the First Stage in Maricopa, Ariz. His four-round total of 293 left him three shots out of the Top 31 and ties, who advanced.
Two-time Manoa Cup champ David Fink, an ‘Iolani graduate, finished at 302.
Joerger takes over at Turtle Bay
Former Ko Olina head pro Travis Joerger took over as Director of Golf at Turtle Bay last week. Joerger had been at Ko Olina for 11 years.
Marcus Judge has been promoted to head pro at Ko Olina. He has been Director of Player Development the past year.
