Miyashiro makes national team roster
U.S. Olympic team libero Tamara Miyashiro, a Kalani High graduate, was named Saturday to the 12-player roster that will compete for the U.S. Women’s National Team in next month’s USA Volleyball Cup.
The top-ranked Americans host Japan in a three-match series beginning July 10 at UC San Diego. The July 12 match is at Long Beach State and the July 13 match is at Serra High in San Juan Capistrano, Calif.
Miyashiro, an All-American at Washington, helped the U.S. to a silver medal at the London Olympic Games. Japan won the bronze medal at the Olympics.
U.S. men’s volleyball team loses in 4
A night after handing Bulgaria its first loss in FIVB World League play, the U.S. men’s national team fell to the Bulgarians 25-20, 18-25, 25-23, 25-21 on Saturday in Reno, Nev.
Punahou product Erik Shoji played the entire match for the Americans (4-2). His brother, setter Kawika Shoji (‘Iolani), did not play in the Pool B match.
Moran to speak at Quarterback Club
Triathlete Linda Moran will be the guest speaker at the Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon Monday at the Maple Garden restaurant.
Lunch starts at 11:30 a.m., followed by the program at noon. The cost is $15 and the general public is invited.
