7 people hurt, 1 critically, in Waianae crash

Police investigate an accident near the intersection of Waianae Valley and Piliuka roads Sunday afternoon.

Seven people were injured, one critically, in a head-on collision in Waianae Sunday afternoon.

Police said a 2013 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, traveling north on Waianae Valley Road crossed the center line and collided with a 2003 Dodge Neon at about 1:40 p.m. near Piliuka Road.

Paramedics took a 14-year-old boy, a passenger in the front seat of the pickup truck,  to a local trauma center in critical condition.

The driver of the Neon, a 25-year-old Waianae man, suffered head and internal injuries and was taken to the hospital in serious condition, police said.

Three other people — 17-year-old girl, 18-year-old woman and 43-year-old woman — were hospitalized, each in serious condition.

Two of the injured, passengers in the back of the pickup truck, were not wearing seat belts, police said.

A child and an infant — a 9-year-old girl and a 2-month-old girl — were also taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 42-year-old Waianae man, was not injured.

Police closed Waianae Valley Road between Kaneaki Street and Plantation Road to investigate. The road was reopened around 4:54 p.m.
