China Air, Hawaiian ink code-share pact
Hawaiian Airlines signed a new code-share agreement Wednesday with China Airlines that will expand the reach of both their networks and provide a range of new travel benefits for their customers. The announcement comes after Hawaiian’s launch of its new nonstop service to Taipei on Tuesday.
The new partnership will take effect late this year and allow Hawaiian to place its two-letter booking code on China Airlines flights leaving Taipei for Honolulu on Sundays and Honolulu to Taipei on Mondays; flights from Taipei to Bangkok; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Singapore; and flights from Sydney and Brisbane, Australia, to Auckland, New Zealand. This agreement also will allow booking and check-in on a single ticket for guests traveling between Hawaii and multiple China Airlines destinations throughout Asia.
The partnership also will allow China Airlines to place its two-letter booking code on Hawaiian Airlines flights leaving Taipei to Honolulu on Mondays and Fridays and Honolulu to Taipei on Sundays and Tuesdays; flights from Honolulu to Las Vegas, Phoenix, Portland, Ore., Seattle and San Diego, Sacramento and San Jose, Calif; and all interisland flights.
Hawaiian Airlines and China Airlines are also finalizing another reciprocal partnership that will allow their respective frequent-flier members to earn and redeem miles for travel on either carrier.
Hawaiian is tops in on-time performance
Hawaiian Airlines was the most punctual U.S. carrier in May as 92.4 percent of its flights arrived on time, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Air Travel Consumer Report released Thursday. The average for the 16 U.S. airlines rated was 79.4 percent.
The carrier had the third-lowest ratio of passengers involuntarily denied boarding at 0.21 per 10,000 passengers, had the fifth-least mishandled baggage reports with 2.17 per 1,000 passengers, and was 11th for fewest consumer complaints with 1.20 per 100,000 passengers.
Rate on 30-year mortgage hits 2-year high of 4.51%
WASHINGTON >> The average U.S. rate on the 30-year fixed mortgage rose this week to 4.51 percent, a two-year high. Rates have been rising on expectations that the Federal Reserve will slow its bond purchases this year.
Mortgage buyer Freddie Mac said Thursday that the average on the 30-year loan jumped from 4.29 percent the previous week. Just two months ago it was 3.35 percent — barely above the record low of 3.31 percent.
The average on the 15-year fixed mortgage rose to 3.53 percent from 3.39 percent last week. That’s the highest since August 2011.
Chairman Ben Bernanke has said the Fed could slow its bond purchases this year if the economy strengthens. The purchases have kept rates low. The yield on the 10-year Treasury, which mortgage rates typically track, has been rising.
