RALEIGH, N.C. » A police officer suing Starbucks after being burned by a free cup of coffee has testified that he drove home to have the injury photographed before he sought medical care.

The News & Observer of Raleigh, North Carolina, reports Wednesday that officer Matthew Kohr told jurors he left the Starbucks in his police car after burning himself.

Kohr says he picked up his truck from the police garage, went home and had his wife take pictures of the burns on his inner thigh.

Starbucks attorney Tricia Derr emphasized that Kohr didn’t visit an urgent care center until more than two hours later.

Kohr contends the lid popped off his coffee and the cup collapsed in his lap. He is suing the coffee chain for between $50,000 and $750,000.
