A 37-year-old man was charged Saturday with assaulting his girlfriend while she was driving a vehicle with two children inside in Nanakuli.

Police said Herman Kelii III was sitting in the front passenger seat when he punched the 35-year-old woman in the face about 9:50 p.m. Thursday.

A 9-year-old boy and a 7-month-old girl were also in the vehicle, boosting the offense to a class C felony for abuse in front of a child under the age of 14, police said. 

Police said Kelii is also a repeat abuse offender. A class C felony is punishable by up to 5 years in prison.

Kelii’s bail was set at $50,000.
