At least weather here is lovely
Honolulu lands a little below the middle in the current Top 100 Best Places to Live ranking, at an unimpressive but not shameful No. 58.
Produced by Livability.com, the list considers such things as median income, average home cost, unemployment rate, schools, health care, demographics and commuting time.
Weather seems not to matter much: No. 1 for livability is Madison, Wis., which has really chilly temperatures, most of the year.
Finishing just above Honolulu were Irvine, Calif.; Reno, Nev.; Olympia, Wash.; Santa Cruz, Calif.; and West Des Moines, Iowa.
Maybe we should count our blessings. Livability puts our median home price at $547,600.
Imagine where we’d rank if it knew that stat was already outdated.
HECO sleep-aid actually important
As far as thrilling reads go, it’s definitely not one.
But HECO’s Power Supply Improvement Plans and Distributed General Interconnection Plan is terribly important to Hawaii’s energy future, and now’s the time for the public to comment on it. It addresses power supply and renewable energy, goals to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and restructuring of customer rates.
Many customers have already skimmed the plans and formed pointed opinions since the plans were filed Aug. 26 with the Public Utilities Commission.
Peruse them yourself at http://1.usa.gov/YXk1ei. Then submit comments to the PUC through Oct. 6, via email to hawaii.puc@hawaii.gov, or mail to 465 S. King St., room 103, Honolulu, 96813.
