Cold front bringing gusty winds, windward showers

This composite satellite picture taken late Wednesday morning shows clouds associated with a cold front moving down the island chain.

Gusty tradewinds and scattered showers are expected Wednesday as a cold front moves over the islands.

The front brought showers to Kauai Wednesday morning and was moving over Oahu late Wednesday morning into the afternoon.

It is expected to reach the Big island Wednesday night.

The forecast for Honolulu and south shores of Oahu calls for tradewinds increasing to 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph late Wednesday afternoon.

The chance of rain is 50 percent over leeward areas and 70 to 100 percent over the North Shore and Windward Oahu.

Mostly cloudy skies Wednesday evening should clear late Wednesday night as the front passes.

Thursday’s forecast calls for sunny skies over leeward areas and partly cloudy skies over windward and mauka areas with scattered showers.

Winds will continue to be breezy at 10 to 20 mph with 40 mph gusts over south shores.

Winds should begin to weaken Friday and pleasant tradewind weather with sunny skies leeward and scattered windward and mauka showers is expected through the weekend.
