Hawaii Hilo men beat Chaminade
Jamie Sporcic and Jacob LaPorte scored goals to propel Hawaii Hilo to a 2-1 victory over Chaminade in a men’s soccer match at Saint Louis field on Monday.
Sporcic scored in the 21st minute and LaPorte nailed a 35-footer off a free kick seven minutes later for the Vulcans (2-2), who outshot the Silverswords 22-13. Austin Bush headed in a goal in the 47th minute for Chaminade (1-2).
Weekly honors for UHH, HPU players
Hawaii Hilo’s Kristine Pasek and Hawaii Pacific’s Ashlyn Ubongen were named co-Player of the Week for women’s soccer in the PacWest Conference.
Pasek, of Apple Valley, Calif., and Ubongen, of Lihue, both netted multiple goals last week. Pasek scored her first goal of the season in a 3-1 win over Simon Fraser. She then scored the game-tying goal in the second half of a 1-1 draw with HPU. Ubongen scored two goals on four shots in a 3-1 win over Western Oregon. She leads the PacWest with three goals.
