Inmates on furlough fail to return to prison
Police and deputy sheriffs are looking for two Oahu Community Correctional Center inmates who failed to return from work furlough passes over the weekend.
Jeremy Casella, 30, did not return to the Kalihi facility at 3:30 a.m. Sunday. He left at 1:45 p.m. Saturday to go to work.
Also missing is Jason Gomes, 43, who left on a work furlough pass at 5 a.m. Sunday and was supposed to return at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
Both men were imprisoned for second-degree robbery.
Both inmates are facing second-degree escape charges.
Woman fatally shoots herself at firing range
A 44-year-old Lahaina woman killed herself Sunday afternoon at Ukumehame Firing Range.
Maui police said the woman, after loading a .22-caliber revolver, placed the barrel of the gun under her chin and pulled the trigger. The instructors who witnessed the incident had no time to react before the weapon was fired, police said. The incident occurred at 3:40 p.m.
Police said the woman was part of a firearms education safety class at the shooting range.
The woman’s name was withheld pending the notification of her family.
Victim foundat cliff’s bottom was Hawi man
Hawaii island police have identified a man whose body was found Friday at the bottom of a cliff in North Kohala as 42-year-old Patrick S. Yamura of Hawi.
Yamura’s body was found Friday evening near Kapanaia Point. He was officially pronounced dead at North Kohala Community Hospital. Police do not suspect foul play.
