3 companies to turn Mayor Wright into mixed-use project
The Hawaii Public Housing Authority has selected Hunt Cos., McCormack Baron Salazar, and Vitus Group to transform Mayor Wright Homes into a mixed-income and mixed-use residential development, the authority announced Monday.
Hunt Cos., which has overseen 91 similar multifaceted projects and more than 2,000 affordable-housing projects nationwide, will serve as the lead master developer.
HPHA Executive Director Hakim Ouansafi said the three companies that comprise the master developer team promise "to catalyze public and private investment to create a vibrant mixed-income community" that will be consistent with downtown transit plans and will increase affordable rental housing options in the state.
The 60-year-old Mayor Wright Homes, a federal low-income public housing development, was last renovated in 1984.
In a release issued Monday, HPHA said the new multifaceted approach will provide extra capital needed to improve the site and its surrounding area.
